Still Life Paintings

Art Start students made still life paintings using tempera on canvas panels. This project covered many art concepts!  First the artists learned how to draw objects in perspective, showing more than one side at a time as well as shadows to make them look "3D" (like the cube and cylinder).  

Then they put this practice to use by drawing real objects from observation. After they finished drawing a still life using pencil on canvas board, students learned about the color wheel and practiced color mixing. Each student mixed tints, shades, secondary colors and compliments on individual palettes. The finished paintings can be seen below.  Beautiful!
