Let's go to the Art Institute!
FIELD TRIP!!!
"Let's Go to the Art Institute" was an absolute blast!  For the first
two classes, we met at Christine Thornton's Art Studio (see above).
Students watched a short video called "How to Visit an Art
Museum", then studied reproductions of the Art Institute's most
famous paintings.  Each student chose one painting to copy.  The
second class was spent finishing these drawings.  For the third
class, we headed to downtown Chicago for a field trip!  (see photo
at right).  We had a scavenger hunt to search for the paintings we
had studied.  The excitement was contagious as each child
discovered his or her "own" painting!  (see photos below)
Noelle and Henri Rousseau's "Waterfall"
Jake and Georgia O'Keeffe's "Sky Over the Clouds"
Jon and Claude Monet's "Grain Stacks, Snow Effect"
Ryan and Rene Magritte's
"Time Transfixed"
Hannah and Grant Wood's
"American Gothic"
We found Georges Seurat's
"Sunday at La Grande Jatte".
Mrs. Thornton got to see her favorite Picasso.
