Art Institute Field Trip
Our fifth annual Art Institute Field Trip was so much fun.
Eight young artists met at Christine Thornton's Art Studio to
copy reproductions of master works from the AI.  Then we
traveled into Chicago to see the originals on a "scavenger
hunt" where we searched for everyone's "own" painting.  We
also saw lots of incredible art along the way, like Monet's
Haystacks, left. Scroll down to see the young artists' work
and photos from the field trip below...
Shannon, age 10, with
"Giant Magnolias on a Light Blue Cloth" by Martin Johnson Heade
Caitlin and Jasmine with
"Acrobats at the Cirque Fernando"
by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Marianna and Marissa both copied the same corner of
"A Sunday on La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat
Emily, age 7, with "Mother and Child" by Pablo Picasso
Sabina, age 9, with "Black Cross, New Mexico" by Georgia O'Keeffe
Sabina chose this painting in part because she remembered that it was hanging next
to the painting she copied for the 2009 field trip:  "Silver Sun" by Arther Dove.
We saw so much fascinating art, including an intricately woven shawl made from the silk of golden
orb spiders and the Thorne Miniature Rooms.
by Jasmine, age 9
by Caitlin, age 7
above by Marissa, age 10
and right by Marianna, age 8
Zachary, age 7, with "Still Life- Strawberries, Nuts, etc."
by Raphaelle Peale
We did our traditional stop at Millennium Park, including pictures
under the "Bean" (above left and right) before heading home
again on the train (left, Marianna and Caitlin).  Such a great day!
