Art Start students created these paper mache action figures in three classes. First, we brainstormed about the many different activities
our bodies can do. Then each student chose an "action" for their own sculpture. They built armatures out of aluminum foil, newspaper
and masking tape, thinking carefully about how the body is shaped while performing that action. The following class was spent applying
paper mache to the armature. The third class they painted the dried, hardened sculptures with tempera and added yarn for hair and
various props. These sculptures were designed to hang from the ceiling. They looked awesome at our Library Show in June!!!

In May, Art Start students also studied Georgia O'Keeffe, an American artist who liked to paint beautiful objects from nature. The
students loosely copied four Georgia O'Keeffe paintings of their choice and painted them in watercolor. When the paintings were
finished, they cut them out and glued them to colored card stock. These stationery sets were given to Moms for Mother's Day or
used as cards for Moms and Grandmas.
