Drawing Musical Instruments
|
Art Start students drew musical instruments for this fun and challenging still life. While listening to jazz music performed by these same types of instruments,
students used their artist eyes to focus on shapes, sizes, details, and lines. They drew the "outlines" of the still life first (above by Hannah, age 10) trying to
show correct proportions and perspective. They had the artistic freedom to "move" the instruments wherever they wanted in their pictures, but they had to
draw each instrument as realistically as possible. After the outlines were done, we learned about shading. They practiced making light, medium and dark values
by varying the pencil pressure and blending with both fingers and blending sticks, then they applied these techniques to their drawings. (Hannah's shaded
drawing, above right)
