Clay Houses
Art Start students spent four classes making houses out of air dry clay.  After watching a PowerPoint presentation and discussing the architecture of houses, they rolled
clay slabs (above left) then chose templates to trace onto the slabs for walls.  The following week, they cut out windows and doors with needle tools, then attached the
walls using a scratch and slip technique (above middle).  The third week, they added a roof and clay details like balconies, shutters, window boxes, chimneys, etc.
