Art Start students made beautiful snowflake prints.
First, they planned their snowflake designs. 1)
Everyone traced a circle template that was divided
into six equal sections. 2) One section was cut out
to become one point of a snowflake. 3)A
snowflake point resembles a tree, or an antler, and
no two are exactly alike. 4) The point was drawn
and cut out, then traced six times around in a circle
to make the final sketch. Everyone had a unique
interpretation, as you can see below.
Next, the snowflakes were ready to become
prints. The snowflake designs were taped to
sheets of styrofoam. Students traced over the
design, pressing down firmly to transfer the
drawing to the styrofoam printing block. Next
they applied white ink to the printing block using
a brayer. Then the block is pressed onto paper
like a giant stamp. Prints can be pulled from a
printing block again and again.
