Weaving on a Loom
Weaving has been around for thousands of years.  People all over
the world weave on looms to make cloth.  Looms can be very
simple, like the cardboard loom on the left, or so large and
complicated that they need to be run by computers.  Art Start
students learned to weave on cardboard looms.  The warp
threads are vertical and attach to the loom.  The weft threads are
woven horizontally between the warp threads.  Or in our case, as
one student said, we had weft "STUFF", including yarn, fabric,
plastic strips, pipe cleaners, mesh produce bags, and even old
blue jeans.  When the loom is full, the weaving is removed from
the loom and hung from a stick.  Tassels or a second stick were
added as a finishing touch.
