Art Starts students spent several weeks studying and creating birds. We learned about John James Audobon, the
famous bird artist. We sketched different types of birds, using books, photographs, and Mrs. Thornton's parakeet,
Pinecone, for reference. Next, students chose their favorite type of bird and drew it larger from the imagination.
They added the bird's habitat for a background, then painted with tempera. Finally, we made bird sculptures out of
Model Magic, which were also painted with tempera.
