Drawing shoes is a great exercise because it encourages us to look closely at every day objects
and notice new things about them. Also, objects that were designed to fit the human body like
shoes, chairs, baseball gloves, etc. make interesting subjects for art because their familiarity and
accessibility seem to invite us in. Art Start students examined their own shoes carefully before
drawing with pencil, then adding finishing details like color or outlining if time allowed during this
one class project. One student even brought in a few pairs of her aunt's fancy shoes to draw
and kindly shared them with some classmates. See if you can find them...
