Summer Art Classes 2018

Looking for a creative outlet for your children this summer? You've come to the right place! The cost for each August class is $20, which includes all materials. Scroll down to see all of the August class options. (The studio is closed in June and July, when I teach at lots of libraries.) Click on the links below to register. Payment can be brought to class or pay online any time here. The address of my Mt. Prospect home studio will be emailed to you upon registration.

Henna Hand Designs (Ages 7+)

Come learn about henna hand designs of India. You'll practice sketching popular henna motifs and then paint your own hands using washable water color pencils. Click here to register.

Chicago Team Logo Paintings (Ages 7+)

Celebrate your favorite Chicago team with this fun painting workshop.  You'll choose your favorite team logo, learn to transfer a drawing to watercolor paper, outline with sharpies, and add color with watercolor pencils. Click here to register.

Harry Potter Illustrations (Ages 9+)

Each chapter of the Harry Potter books starts with a beautiful little black and white drawing made by illustrator Mary GrandPré. We'll study those together and make our own drawings inspired by them. Click here to register.

Learn to Draw Realistic Faces (Ages 9+)

If you like drawing faces and want to improve your skills, this class is for you. Working in pencil, we'll learn about proportion and placement of features, how to draw hair, shading and more. Click here to register.

Learn to Draw Manga Faces (Ages 9+)

Improve your drawing skills in this fun class. We'll cover the basics of drawing faces in the Japanese style of Manga including expressive eyes and fun hair for both boys and girls. Click here to register.

Cat Paintings (Ages 7+)

First we'll practice drawing cats in different poses all together. Then you'll choose your favorite to draw and paint with watercolor pencils, adding your own unique ideas and creativity. Click here to register.

Mini Clay Birds (Ages 7+)

First we'll make practice sketches, then learn to make mini bird sculptures using Sculpey clay. Pieces will be baked in my oven and sent home at the end of class. Click here to register.

Let's Paint Butterflies (Ages 5-7)

Perfect for summer! First we'll read a story about butterflies, then you'll learn how to draw and paint one to take home for yourself.  Click here to register.

Fall Art Start Classes 2018 Ages 7+

Art Start classes meet one hour per week for 8 weeks at Christine Thornton's Art Studio in Mt. Prospect. Each session includes a 2D and 3D project. Projects are always new to accommodate returning students. This fall, we will draw realistic owls from photo reference using permanent marker and charcoal, and create free choice "outer space" sculptures using paper mache. The fee is $98 per student and $88 for each sibling after the first. All materials are provided and included in the fee. To register, click here. *Monday students, please note: we'll meet on Tuesday the first week because of Labor Day. If Tuesday Sept 4th at 4:30 or 7:00 doesn't work, email me and we'll find something that does.
