Clay Coil Pots

Art Start February 2016

My students sculpted these fabulous coil pots using air dry clay.  First they made slabs to cut out a base. Then they rolled coils and stacked them using a scratch and slip technique. Some made their pots angle out and in, others chose to keep theirs straight. Some added balls of clay or spirals. Others added lids or handles. Some smoothed the coils and some let them show. We spent 3 classes building the pots (keeping them wrapped in plastic between classes). Then they were allowed to air dry. Finally they were painted with acrylics. So cool!
