Owl Paintings

Art Start February 2015

Art Start students used watercolor pencils to paint owls in February. This time I completely forgot to take photos of kids working on the owls. But one of my students left my little model in a dancer pose to keep Pinecone entertained, so I thought I'd include that!

For the owls, we used a combination of drawing from observation and imagination. First the students drew the owls on watercolor paper using pencil, then did a layer of under painting with a wet on wet technique. The next class, they added layers of color and details using dry brush and direct drawing with the water color pencils.  Glowing layers of color, great big staring eyes, soft textured feathers and dream-like backgrounds make these paintings extra special. Enjoy!
