Summer 2019 Art Classes for Kids

Summer classes will be held at Christine Thornton’s home studio in Mt. Prospect. Classes meet one time each for 90 minutes and cost $20. All materials are provided and included in the fee. Classes are for ages 7-14, 9-14, or 7-adult. Scroll down to see all of the options!

Yarn Wall Hangings for Ages 7-Adult

Learn how to make these simple, trendy wall hangings that will look great hanging in your house! Choose whatever color scheme you’d like, from neutral to rainbow. Kids ages 7+ can sign up with or without their grownup. Register here.

How to Draw Manga Faces for Ages 9-14

Improve your drawing skills in this fun class. We'll cover the basics of drawing faces in the Japanese style of Manga including expressive eyes and fun hair for both boys and girls. For ages 9-14. Register here.

Drawing Flowers: Botanical Illustration for Ages 7-Adult

Improve your drawing skills by learning how to draw real flowers from observation. Christine will teach you how to draw what you see, starting with pencil, outlining with marker, then adding colored pencil. Kids ages 7+ can sign up with or without their grownup. Register here.

How to Draw Pokémon for Ages 7+

Learn to draw Pokémon characters in this fun class. We'll draw Piplup all together following a step-by-step process. Then you’ll draw whichever Pokémon you want, with lots of worksheets and Christine's help to guide you. Register here.

Mini Clay Animals for Ages 7-14

Join us and create your own mini animal using Sculpey clay. Christine will teach you some basic building techniques, then you make the animal(s) of your choice. Pieces will be fired during class and sent home finished. For ages 7-14. Register here.

Galaxy Portraits for Ages 9-Adult

Join us for this modern twist on a classic silhouette portrait. Choose a profile to draw (or trace one of the provided printouts). Then let your imagination take over and fill in a painted design using watercolor pencils under Christine's guidance. Kids ages 9+ can sign up with or without their grownup. Register here.

Blue Bird Paintings for Ages 9-Adults

We’ll use liquid watercolors to create this beautiful image of an Eastern Bluebird perched among pink blossoms. The outline will be provided so you can focus on painting, or you can draw your own bird. Learn different watercolor techniques like wet on wet, dry brush, color mixing and more in this fun painting workshop. Kids ages 9+ can sign up with or without their grownup. Register here.
