variety of books and figurines, Christine teaches about five mythological creatures and how to
draw them.
"Create Your Own Avatar and Banshee"
Ages 10 and up, maximum 25 students
Did you love the movie Avatar? Wish you could fly on a Banshee? Ever wonder what
YOUR avatar would look like? Join us for this exciting drawing workshop. We'll learn how
to draw our own personal Banshees and altered self portraits, transforming ourselves into
virtual residents of Pandora.
"How to Draw Dragons"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
Do you love dragons? Come explore kids' favorite mythological creature in this hands-on drawing
workshop. Using a Power Point presentation, lively discussion, and a variety of books and
figurines, Christine teaches about dragons and how to draw them.
"How to Draw People: Figure Drawing for Kids"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
Figure drawing is one of the most important skills an artist can develop, and it's never too early to
start. Christine teaches several drawing warm-up exercises, then students draw live models posing
with props and costumes.
"How to Draw Horses"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
Attention, horse lovers! Whether you're an expert at drawing horses, or you want to try for the
first time, this workshop will help you improve your ability to draw this beautiful, challenging
subject. We'll sketch from pictures, books and figurines then make a finished drawing with
colored pencils.
"Ready, Set, Draw!"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
Love to draw? Want to learn how to draw better? Learn to "see like an artist" by drawing from
observation with art instructor Christine Thornton. We'll start by drawing simple machines like
household tools, then move our way up to a more challenging subject!
"How to Draw Comics"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
Crazy for comics? Come to this workshop and learn about several comic strips, including
Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and Iron Man. Then invent and draw your own main character,
complete with a nemesis and a side kick.
"How to Draw Athletes in Action"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
Sports fans, come try your hand at drawing athletes in action. Learn from handouts, books, and
live models posing for you. We'll do several sketches then bring your favorites to life with color
and a background.
"Australian Aborigine Dot Paintings"
ages 7 and up maximum 25 students
It's fun to explore art from faraway places. Through a slide show and music, we'll meet the
Australian Aborigine people and learn about their art. Then we'll make our own "dot paintings"
inspired by the wildlife "down under" and the Aborigine culture.
"Recycle, Reuse, Create: Weaving on a Cardboard Loom"
ages 7 and up, maximum 15 students
If you'd like to help the planet by turning junk into beautiful art, check out this workshop. We'll
weave on recycled cardboard looms using materials like colored plastic bags, aluminum foil, mesh
produce bags, and even old curtains and blue jeans. Finished weavings hang from a stick and look
great on any wall.
"Book Cover Illustration"
ages 7 and up, maximum 25 students
This workshop is perfect for Young Authors events, writing clubs and book clubs. Students bring
in their finished stories and create a cover illustration with Christine, learning tips she used when
illustrating the cover of "Heading to the Wedding".
